Colour engraving, au pointillé, after François Leroy de Liancourt (1741-1835). Size of sheet: 37.5 x 53.8 cm. Lettered with names of producers, publication address: 'AParis chez P. Beljambe, Rue des Petits Augustins, la 2eme Porte Cochère a gauche en entrant par la Rue du Colombier, No.3', and title.

Beautiful richly inked impression of this rare print on heavy laid paper with very large margins. Repaired tear in the lettering (on top of the address “Rue du Colombier), some strengthening of the platemark line with Japanese conservation paper on the back of the sheet and slight yellowing of paper on the edges of the sheet.

  • This print was announced in the Moniteur Universel on 16th March 1792 stressing that ‘l’exécution en est parfait, la position des trois acteurs, l’expression de leurs figures… est d’une grande régularité d’ordonnance et de deffin, tout doit concourir à faire recherchere cette gravure, comme l’une des plus agreables en ce genre’ [the execution is perfect, the position of the three actors, the expression of their figures... is of great regularity in order and definition, everything contributes to making this engraving look like one of the most pleasant in this genre]. The work was exhibited in the Salon in Paris in 1793.
