Louis-Simon Lempereur: Sylvie guérit Philis
One of the four engravings by Lempereur after overdoor pictures by Boucher executed in 1756, illustrating scenes from a play ‘Aminta’ written by Torquato Tasso in 1573. The pictures belonged to the Duc de Penthièvre from Madame de Pompadure. He agreed to lend them to the Manufacture des Gobelins in 1783. Two of these Gobelins tapestries hang today at the Welbeck Abbey in the collection of the Duke of Portland.
