Jean-Baptiste Marie Huet: Interior of a Barn

  • After studying with Jean-Baptiste Le Prince, Huet became an agréé of the French Academy in 1768 and a full member a year later. He must have learnt to etch from his master. The first plates by Huet were dedicated to Le Prince. Main body of his etched works comes after 1789, his earliest and rare prints are dated 1770.

Sa gravure en ce genre a du goût, du pittoresque; l’effet est obtenu très implement, et le trait est presque toujours léger…” [His engraving in this genre is tasteful, picturesque; the effect is obtained very easily, and the line is almost always light…] (Gabillot, p.88)

    Rare!
