Ira Moskowitz: David and Bathsheba

  • Ira Moskowitz was born in Poland. He came with his family to New York in 1927. After some initial success as an artist, he went to Israel in 1935 where he spent two years working at Kibbutz Kiryat Avanim near Jerusalem. He then returned to the USA, married and continued his work as an artist.

    Moskowitz spent time working in Mexico and the American southwest. The artist also spent almost a decade in Paris where his work won critical acclaim. Moskowitz had a greatly successful career, earning himself the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1943 and exhibiting throughout his life. His etchings, lithographs and paintings are included in many major collections in Europe, the United States and Israel. These include the Library of Congress, Washington DC, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, the Haifa Museum of Modern Art, Israel, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston Texas, and the Witte Memorial Museum San Antonio Texas.
